Sad News

My name is Annie and I’m heartbroken to have to announce that my mother, Lelia Taylor, passed away suddenly but peacefully Sunday night, March 20. At this time plans for a memorial service have not been settled but when they are I will post the details here. Otherwise, this blog will not be updated anymore.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please buy a book (any book) from your local independent bookstore or bookshop.org in her honor.

  1. This is terrible news. I was very fond of Lelia and enjoyed her sense of humor and appreciation of a good mystery so very much. Sympathy for you, Annie, and for all the authors Lelia helped over the years.

  2. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The writing community has lost a good friend, too. Leila was the first person to comment on my first-ever blog post, and I have followed her since. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

  7. Your mother sold my first novel at her store. Some of my best writing was done for Buried Under Books. She leaves behind a legacy of supporting authors and we were all loyal to her. She leaves behind an empty space which will never be filled.

  9. Annie, I am so very sorry for your loss. As you know, Lelia was an outstanding friend to me. She always gave me review books specifically for “my” students and if not for her, my favorite classroom library would not boast more than 600 titles. The whole book world has suffered a huge loss.
