Lauren Carr is the best-selling author of the Mac Faraday Mysteries, which takes place in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Killer in the Band is the third installment in the Lovers in Crime Mystery series.
In addition to her series set in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, Lauren Carr has also written the Mac Faraday Mysteries, set on Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland, and the Thorny Rose Mysteries, set in Washington DC. The second installment in the Thorny Rose Mysteries, which features Joshua Thornton’s son Murphy and Jessica Faraday, Mac’s daughter, A Fine Year for Murder, will be released January 1, 2017.
Lauren is a popular speaker who has made appearances at schools, youth groups, and on author panels at conventions. She also passes on what she has learned in her years of writing and publishing by conducting workshops and teaching in community education classes.

Joshua’s eldest son, Joshua Thornton Jr. (J.J.) has graduated at the top of his class from law school and returns home to spend the summer studying for the bar exam. Even though J.J. is Murphy’s identical twin, Lauren warns readers not to expect him to be a carbon copy of the dashing special ops naval officer in the Thorny Rose Mysteries. “In many ways, J.J. is very much like Murphy,” Lauren says, “but in other ways, he’s the opposite. J.J. inherited more of his 
father’s cerebral talents. He’s quieter than Murphy, which is emphasized by his love for music and books. Readers find out in Killer in the Band that he was a musical prodigy, which was what had brought him and Suellen, an orchestra conductor, together. J.J.’s homecoming brings long buried familial tensions to the surface—not the least of which being J.J.’s dislike for his stepmother Cameron, a conflict that lingers in the background of Lauren’s latest fast-paced mystery.
